12/10/2023 0 Comments Can i have a wizard with a gun in 5eThis means that I'll be a Fighter 2/Wizard X. Finally, I'll be able to focus on the Wizard. Then, I'll reach level 5 with Wizard to have the powerful level 3 spells, then take a second level in Fighter. And of course every little bit of more HP helps. I'll start with Fighter for the Constitution saving throw, heavy armor and martial weapon proficiencies. This seems the go-to race for optimizers but trust me, this time you REALLY need the level 1 feat if you use point buy. Why Strength? There will be several moments in the post where I'll explain why Strength is better than Dexterity in this build. The second highest score in Constitution, the odd score in Wisdom, the neutral score in Dexterity, and dump Charisma. The highest scores will be invested in Strength and Intelligence. Of course I'm more effective this way but it doesn't mean the build won't work. I was really luck with rolls and got two 17s and a 14, the rest were 11 10 and 9. I highly raccomend to roll stats, hoping to get some good scores. Of course, since I need 3 stats to work good, I'll be MAD. Hitting hard in melee and being a Wizard surely comes with costs. Part 2: Versatility, but at what cost? Stats and Race. So, what are my strengths? If it wasn't obvious, my strengths lie in the fact that I'm a Wizard and I have tons of utility inside and outside combat. I won't hit like a truck - or better, like a regular Fighter/Martial Class in general - but my damage will still be solid thanks to Booming Blade and Green-Flame Blade, going Sword&Board. But on the other hand, with this build, I'll be hard to hit and sturdier to saving throws. I won't have much HP: 1D6 Hit Die for each level of my main class is really low. All of this is covered, enchanted, modified and augmented by my Wizardry. I'm not gonna be the best DPR of the party because I lack Extra Attacks, but I want to hit hard with my weapon. Part 1: How I want to play the character aka quick explanation. This means I'll only take few Fighter levels, and lots of Wizard ones. Full spell progression, and the only restrictions are the rules (and not even them at a certain point), your fantasy as a player, and maybe gold for acquiring some spells. I said: well let's invert all of this! The Wizard is THE magic class. School (thus flavour) restrictions, slow spell progression. Important note: I was inspired by a popular belief about the Eldritch Knight archetype: maybe it has too many restrictions. Thanks to some of you I finally decided how to build such a character and I'm finally ready to try it, not by just theorycrafting. I made several posts here regarding some discussions about level spread, feat choices and archetype selections.
